Forty years from his conception, he’ll think back and ask himself questions. Pondering on the decisions he never took and those he took; in all the omissions and commissions that he embarked on that have made him who he is today.
A man becomes who he is when he is able to conceive the purpose of his being, and make all decisions geared towards becoming who he wants to be. Yes, every decision you make and otherwise counts in turning you to who you eventually become.
We all desire to become something in life; some of us desire to be professionals in one field or another, others want to become maestros in an art or the other.
The first step to ever becoming that person we desire to be is identifying who we are; in fact it is only when we are able to identify who we are then we are able to know what path of life we are to take in pursuing our dreams.
At an early age of my life I had so many dreams and aspirations, a cluster that gave me a vague picture of who I wanted to be. I feared I was headed into the unknown, because, of course, when you can’t make a choice from several dreams, then you have made no choice, and if you thought to make the choice of all your dreams, (the Octopus mindset) then you’d achieve none.
In order to fulfill the purpose we desire to be in life, we must identify a dream we want to chase, which often is a choice among others. This choice is made only when you consider who you are. I’ll give myself as an example; I happen to be a talker, a good speaker, an outspoken person and a deep thinker, putting all these together, I chose for myself a dream that could imbibe all these characters and produce the best out of them.
Then the next turn to take, is that of building on your dream and personality; taking up tasks, and necessary steps in fortification of your dream and purpose. I would classify education as one of the means in the building stage. Education is not limited to the classroom philosophy, but includes every step we take; whether in listening, reading or practicing; that adds to our knowledge and creativity. These ultimately lead to a fuller tap into our innate resources that creates excellence in whatever field we take to becoming who we desire to be.
I will close on FLAWS; its no gain saying that no man is without flaws; flaws here are those things which seem to say to us in the face, that we cannot become who we want to be. They are those natural imperfections we have in us. Everyman is born with the flaws, and even when all seems perfect, there is a hidden flaw within. A flaw could even be the myopic clothing of self satisfaction in earthly riches, which forestall a clear sighting of who we are meant to be. A man who is born to a rich family, and “wants nothing”, may lie to himself that he is without a problem, now that’s just where the problem surfaces. That is one out of millions. Well, for any man to fulfill himself and become anything here on earth, he must identify his flaw and strive effortlessly in dealing with this. For me flaws are not meant to kill your dream, but rather to bring them out.
