Happy Mother’s Day – 2020
Thank you for all the years of sacrifice you put to see to it that myself and brothers got a fair deal in life.
Thank you for those nights you kept awake, praying for us — even those nights you wept all through because you had no inkling of what the dawn would bring.
Thank you for persevering with four opinionated Generals, and guiding us with your tough arm, straightening our untoward tendencies and putting us in the right path.
Thank you for the hymns you sang to us at the dinning table, viewed from the burning flames of candles and lanterns. You did not have the voice of the nightingale, but you had the heart of a warrior. Those nights when we sang “Abide with us, fast falls the even tide, the darkness deepens, Lord with us abide, when other helpers fail and comforts flee, help of the helpless, abide with us,” are evergreen.
Thank you for quitting your oft made trips to spend time with us and ensure that our falling grades were jacked back up.
Thank you for trading gold and silver and jewelry of every kind so you could afford us a worthy life.
Thank you for loosing yourself, so that your four young men could find themselves.
Thank you for loving us, in your own way, ultimately you wanted the best. We may not have agreed that some of the paths you took were the best; we may have differed on some of the choices you made; we may have disagreed with the manner you approached things; but one underpinning fact behind every cause you took was a clear intention to do what was best and right in the circumstances you found yourself.
For that, you deserve the medal, for the world’s best mum. On Mother’s Day 2020.
Love you Mummy.
