My 7 Point Agenda as Deputy Curator of the Abuja Global Shapers Hub

Introduction

The role of the Deputy Curator is largely a supportive one. It is to provide a bolstered leadership and support to the leadership architecture of the Hub.

The role of the curator is massive: high expectations, meetings, coordinating the various programmes and projects and providing direction, vision and cohesion for the Hub. In truth this role is cumbersome especially without a bastion of support from a strong-willed and determined deputy.

And this is fundamentally the role I intend to play: To give robust assistance to the leadership structure of the hub; to be available to take roles and responsibilities and fill in the gap where the Curator in unavoidably absent, engaged or busy.

 

My 7 Point Agenda

I intend that these agenda I seek would be in line with the vision of the curator. These are my guiding philosophies as I provide support to the agenda of the Curator.

  • Measurement of Impact and Focus on Result
  • Structures and institutions
  • Values and Purpose
  • Leadership and Direction
  • Communication
  • Partnerships
  1. COHESION :

One key item I would want to dwell on as Deputy Curator is the improvement of internal relationships and cohesion among members of the hub. Over time this has been marred by argy-bargies among members, heated arguments and all. I intend to encourage close bonding, understanding and tolerance.

 

  1. MEASUREMENT OF IMPACT – FOCUS ON RESULTS

With so many projects being embarked on by the Hub, it has become more necessary than ever to streamline our activities and be deliberate about setting targeted results and ensuring that the desired impact sought for each project and programme embarked on is achieved. All programmes would have set goals, which all activities would be deliberately tailored towards.

  1. STRUCTURES AND INSTITUTIONS

To create sustainability for the hub, it has become imperative to institutionalize projects embarked on. Projects must be beyond individuals. Thus the absence of a person should not mean the weakening of projects. Structures for each project must be created to allow them work seamlessly and independently.

 

  1. VALUE AND PURPOSE

I propose that the Hub must define and rehash its values and purpose. The ultimate goal of the hub, to make our communities better, must be engraved in the attitude, lifestyle and objectives of not just our projects but also among hub members.

 

  1. LEADERSHIP AND DIRECTION

This is the ultimate of why I seek to be Deputy Curator: to provide leadership and a visionary direction to all our activities at the Hub.

 

  1. COMMUNICATION

I strongly intend to improve the communication structure of the Hub. This is an area that I am passionate and very much interested in. The Hub is actively engaged in so many laudable activities, yet little is heard on the media space about them. I am going to be deliberate and consistent with communicating the strides and achievement of the Hub on all media platforms: broadcast, print and on the new media. The Hub while it leads in spearheading landmark projects, must as well lead in the frontline of promoting these strides.

 

  1. PARTNERSHIPS

I intend to forge more strategic partnerships to help build the network of the hub and also create more opportunities for the hub to carry out its mandate. Beyond building this partnerships I would ensure that they are harnessed and sustained.
